S235 – the standard structural steel

S235 is the most frequently ordered material in the calculator: an unalloyed structural steel that welds, bends and drills very well. The number in the name stands for the minimum yield strength in N/mm². For brackets, mounts, base plates and any cutting job without special strength requirements, S235 is the most economical choice – available from 0.5 to 20 mm.

S355 – more yield strength for load-bearing parts

S355 handles significantly higher loads than S235, allowing slimmer, lighter constructions at the same load-bearing capacity. Typical fields of use are structural steelwork, machine frames and lifting-gear environments – anywhere the structural engineer has a say. Laserteile Online also cuts S355 from 0.5 to 20 mm.

S235 galvanised – corrosion protection from the factory

Galvanised S235 sheet (0.5–6 mm) already comes with its corrosion protection built in: the zinc coating shields the surface from rust with no need for later coating. Ideal for covers, small parts and constructions used outdoors. One thing to note: the cut edge is not galvanised after laser cutting – for full coverage, powder coating is the recommended option.

DD11 / DC01 – the forming specialists

DD11 (hot-rolled) and DC01 (cold-rolled) are designed as deep-drawing and forming grades: soft, ductile and reliably free of cracks when bent. Cold-rolled DC01 also scores with a smooth, dimensionally accurate surface for visible parts. Anyone who has their cut parts bent afterwards is safest with these grades.

HB 400 – wear-resistant plate for tough jobs

HB 400 is a wear-resistant plate – the number denotes a Brinell hardness of around 400 HB. It withstands abrasion from bulk materials, gravel and soil many times longer than ordinary structural steel, which is why it's used for excavator buckets, chutes, container wear strips and agricultural machinery. Available in the calculator from 0.5 to 15 mm.

Applications

What steel laser-cut parts are used for

Steel combines high strength with a good price and the best weldability – the basis for most sheet metal constructions.

  • Machine building – base plates, brackets, guards and fixture construction from S235/S355, from a single part
  • Construction + structural steelwork – gusset plates, end plates and lugs in S355 with a higher yield strength
  • Frames + chassis – laser-cut parts, bent to order up to 3 m long
  • Brackets + spare parts – from a reproduced old part to a small batch, delivered from 2 working days

Need it to be permanently rust-free – with no coating at all? Then it's worth a look at stainless steel laser cutting (V2A + V4A up to 15 mm). And when rust is expressly welcome – as a warm weathering-steel look for garden and façade – Corten steel laser cutting is the right choice.

Price

What does having steel laser cut cost?

Steel is the most affordable material group in the calculator – the exact part price is determined by contour, thickness, cut length and quantity.

The table shows the material cost basis in €/kg of raw material from the calculator (as of August 2026) – it is explicitly not a part price, but it does make the price relationship between grades transparent. The instant price calculator delivers your binding instant price in about 60 seconds; every pricing factor is explained in the guide “What does laser cutting cost?”. Minimum order value: €50 net plus shipping.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about steel laser cutting

What's the difference between S235 and S355?

Both are unalloyed structural steels to EN 10025 – the number denotes the minimum yield strength in N/mm². S355 therefore handles significantly higher loads than S235 and is chosen for load-bearing or heavily stressed structures. S235 is the more affordable all-rounder for brackets, frames and general-purpose cutting. Laserteile Online laser cuts both grades from 0.5 to 20 mm thick.

What sheet thicknesses can I have laser cut in steel?

S235 and S355 from 0.5 to 20 mm in 14 steps (0.5 / 1 / 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 15 / 20 mm). S235 galvanised is available from 0.5 to 6 mm, and DD11/DC01 and HB 400 wear-resistant plate are each available from 0.5 to 15 mm. The maximum sheet format is 3,000 × 1,500 mm.

Does laser-cut steel rust – and what helps prevent it?

Yes, untreated structural steel corrodes when exposed to moisture. For outdoor use there are two options: S235 galvanised (up to 6 mm) already comes with a zinc coating for corrosion protection, or you can order powder coating in RAL shades directly as an add-on to the cut. Permanently rust-free with no coating at all is stainless steel V2A/V4A.

What does having steel laser cut cost?

The instant price calculator works out the exact price in about 60 seconds from your CAD file – depending on grade, thickness, cut length and quantity. As a guide: the material cost basis for steel S235 is €1.10/kg of raw material (as of August 2026), making steel the most affordable material in the calculator. The minimum order value is €50 net plus shipping.

Can I order steel parts as a single piece?

Yes, Laserteile Online manufactures from a single part – from one-off spare parts to full batches. The minimum order value of €50 net applies. For large projects from €5,000 order value, the team puts together individual quotes with current sheet metal prices.

How quickly are laser-cut steel parts delivered?

Delivery starts at 2 working days. Standard grades such as S235 and S355 are almost always in stock in every thickness, so production sometimes starts within 24 hours. For a surcharge, same-day express production is possible; shipping runs as a parcel (24 h possible) or by freight carrier (24–72 h).

Which steel grade suits bending and deep-drawn parts?

For forming work, DD11 (hot-rolled) and DC01 (cold-rolled) are the first choice: both are designed as forming and deep-drawing grades. Cold-rolled DC01 also offers a smoother, more dimensionally accurate surface for visible parts. Both grades are available in the calculator from 0.5 to 15 mm.

Can Laserteile Online also bend, deburr or coat steel parts?

Yes, everything from a single source: bending up to 3 m long with 150 t of press force, plus the add-on options deburring, tumbling, threading and powder coating – all selectable directly in the calculator. That way the steel part arrives ready to install from a single order instead of three suppliers.
